Beginning of School Year Interview. Document how your kids change every year with this free printable! #backtoschool #freeprintable #homeschool

My kids change so much every year! It’s inevitable. I look back through their work and their pictures and think, “How did they get so big?!” each and every time. Using a beginning of school year interview is such a sweet way to document these changes!

One of the best ways I’ve been able to document their changes is through beginning of the year pictures and beginning of school year interviews. This is something they love doing and look forward to each year. This year was no different.

On the first day of school each year I have my kids hold a paper with their grade and school year on it. I’m so glad that I started this tradition at the beginning of my oldest son’s homeschool career. I haven’t invested in a board to keep every year, like some people I know, mainly because, for one, paper works, and for two, I don’t have yet another thing collecting dust that only gets used once a year.

Another great way to document my kids’ changes is through a beginning of school year interview. In these interviews they are able to write down some of their favorite things, what they’re looking forward to, and, my very favorite, draw a self portrait of themselves.

This gives you the opportunity to see their drawing and handwriting skills get better over the years, as well as have a cute way to document how their likes and dislikes change over the years.

Sometimes, their responses even surprise me! This year, both of my boys said they want to be ninjas when they grow up. I totally credit this to our karate classes, but I never would have guessed that to be their answers!

Some things just melt your heart. This year, my nine year old said he is most excited to go to see his grandparent’s new house. A few years ago, my six year old said his grandpa was his best friend. Is that just not the sweetest!?
