Tall Tales are folktales that harness the storytelling power of exaggeration to share the adventures of fictional or historical heroes. Many of these American folk heroes include the likes of Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, John Henry, Molly Pitcher, Johnny Appleseed, Annie Oakley and more. There is nothing quite like escaping reality, curled up with our little ones, and reading a dashing tale of adventure. Fairytales take us on a fictional expedition! We can see a daring wolf trying to make a meal out of pigs. We can see a damsel princess letting down her hair from her tower. There are sleeping beauties, bridge-hogging trolls, and so much more. Some fairytales are exciting, and others are scary, but each does have a deeper moral laying beneath the surface. These books cultivate learning for our children to explore their imagination, but even contemplate deeper messages hidden below. Poetry books can be such a lovely addition to your home library. They can take children on a short adventure to a different place and help them learn about a life outside of their own. We love including poetry in many of our Rabbit Trails lessons, so it was no surprise when we looked to add beautiful poetry to our new Homesteading unit.
